An alleged writer, a rumored poet according to some, the incendiary Anti-Poet according to most. I live my life constantly changing hats in order to net work or just plain old drone work. Not just doing enough to survive but doing more than the minimum to eak out our existence in order to maintain the energy, motivation, and discipline it take to live the artist life. sleeping a maxim of five hours a night in order to work on my writing and art. Another dream weaving worker bee, just like you, currently leading the boring old writers’ life here in buckle of the bible belt. On Sundays I hang out at the Balcony Club for the Poetry Salon hosted by Todd Buckley. Occasionally I even read a poem or two, mine or who ever I am reading at the moment, but mostly I listen to the real poets. During the year get out to every quality regular poetry reading or literary gathering of the tribe within the range of the bus routes and train rides within the city at least once a month. While I will admit that I miss the majority of our fair backwaters events, free or priced admittance, I seriously doubt anyone could consider himself or herself to be the lesser for this. You are no different than myself inn that when you go to an event such as one of these estrogen fueled love fest of the literati’s circle jerks, when you leave you will be convinced scientifically, allegorically and metaphysically, that the poetry as an art form as it is currently being practiced in the United States if America is completely without any merit artistic psychologically sociologically or otherwise. Consequently, We haven’t missed a god damned thing by not attending these Twinkie filled wanker fest infesting the bars, coffee shops and bookstores of our nation as if they were Kaqroaches breeding uninhibited unchecked in the wet sheetrock walls of the American slums. My favorite writer's events are the featured readings, I really prefer just going in and listening to a great poet roll for a while. For me there is this near tantric rhythm that the great poets achieve when they get to take the stage for long periods of time the closest thing I've ever experienced that even come close to it is the feeing you get when you see a really great preacher get on a roll southern Baptist hell fire and halleluiah style. Great motivational speakers seem to be able to build this same sort of momentum and cadence of their lectures. The ability to write a great poem and the skill of the talented orator do not often land on the same creature just like singer songwriters but on those rare occasions when it does, it is a truly wondrous thing to witness. When time and cash flow allow I attend as many of these types of literary events as possible. Open mikes are like community service a wise woman once said and I would agree that for a lot of us young to writing this is where we go instead of campus MFA programs and formal workshops to test our courage and skill with language. As one of the editors that publish the quarterly arts and literary magazine Death List Five (voice of the lunatic fringe) I am constantly on the look out for quality new underground, under appreciated, hardcore literary and artistic talents. Reading, painting, film and video games are my favorite past times at the moment. Since I spend so much time trying to get other artist and writers work into the publics’ faces and published. We started personal blogs for our own writing. So, without further ceremony, the mental masturbations of; The Artiest Formally Known as the Prince of Darkness.
